The Foreign Minister is travelling to visit Finland


Today, on September 23, Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand is travelling to visit Finland. Meetings are planned with President Sauli Niinistö, Foreign Minister Timo Soini, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Lenita Toivakka and Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Antti Kaikkonen.

Discussions during the meeting with President Niinistö will include bilateral and regional cooperation and security issues, including the Ukraine-Russia conflict, as well as the migration crisis. In addition to the aforementioned topics, the Eastern Partnership, the situation in Syria and the upcoming UN General Assembly are topics that will be discussed with Foreign Minister Soini.

In meeting with Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Toivakka, topics to be covered inlcude possible cooperation in the field of development cooperation, the creation of the European Union Trust Fund and sustainable development goals.

In addition, the Minister will speak the premiere of the film "1944" at the 28th Helsinki International Film Festival "Love and Anarchy".

On September 24, the Minister will participate in a cyber dialogue meeting to be held in the Nordic-Baltic-U.S. e-PINE initiative (Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe) format  in Helsinki. At the meeting, Foreign Minister Kaljurand will provide an overview of the activities of the UN Group of Governmental Experts (UNGGE), in the field of cyber experts, of which she was a member in 2014-2015.

Following the meetings, Kaljurand will travel to New York for the opening week of the UN 70th General Assembly.
