Prizes of the Foreign Ministry's 20th Estonia-themed quiz went to Germany and Russia


Today, on June 5, the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General Alar Streimann drew the winning names of its web-based quiz, intended as an introduction to Estonia for foreigners. The grand prizes of the quiz, travel packages to Estonia, went to lucky winners in Germany and Russia.

The Estonia-themed quiz is a long-standing tradition. This year, the Ministry organized the quiz for the twentieth time. The goal of the Foreign Ministry's quiz is to introduce Estonia to citizens of foreign countries by offering participants new and interesting facts about the country, as well as to give them an incentive to look for more information about Estonia and to want to come for a visit.

This year, 7926 people from 130 different countries participated in the quiz. The greatest numbers of participants were from the United States, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Moldova and Canada. "The large number of participants shows how varied and widespread interest in Estonia is. In addition to our close neighbours, there were participants from every corner of the world: Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Morocco and South Africa," Streimann said. Secretary General Streimann thanked everyone for their support and cooperation, particularly those Estonian companies who donated prizes and thereby helped contribute to the increased popularity and success of the quiz.

The quiz was in two languages: English and Russian, and consisted of 12 multiple-choice questions about Estonia and things Estonian. People could submit their answers from March 18 through May 31. There were a total of 6991 people who answered all the questions correctly.

Three summer vacation packages to Estonia were drawn from amongst the participants of the English-language quiz. The English-language quiz's grand prize is a six-day trip package that includes airfare for two to Estonia courtesy of Estonian Air, overnight stays in the Three Sisters and L'Ermitage hotels in Tallinn, a Tallinn city tour courtesy of Estravel, dinner at the Konrad restaurant, and sightseeing with the Tallinn Card courtesy of the City of Tallinn. The winner will visit the KUMU Art Museum, participate in the TV tower's new attraction "Edge Walk" and a bike excursion courtesy of Citybike. The winner will also visit Pärnu, where they will stay at the Ammende Villa.

Prizes for the Russian-language quiz include two travel packages to Estonia. The Russian-language quiz's grand prize is also a six-day trip package to Estonia. The grand prize winner will receive two return air tickets to Estonia from Estonian Air, will stay at the Three Sisters and Tallink City hotels in Tallinn and have dinner in the restaurant MEKK. In addition, the winner will visit Saaremaa, where they will stay at the Kuressaare Ekesparre Boutique Hotel. The winner will receive a tour of the capital courtesy of Estravel and a Tallinn Card courtesy of the City of Tallinn. The winner will also visit the Kadriorg Art Museum, participate in the TV tower's new attraction "Edge Walk” and a bike excursion courtesy of Citybike.

The Foreign Ministry has organized Estonia-themed quizzes intended as an introduction to the country for foreigners since 2001.
