Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus to discuss the future of European Neighbourhood Policy with EU and Southern neighbourhood foreign ministers

Tomorrow, on April 13, Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus will participate in an Informal Ministerial Meeting on the future of European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) in Barcelona at the invitation of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Johannes Hahn, and the foreign ministers of Spain and Latvia. The foreign ministers of the southern ENP partner countries Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority and Tunisia have also been invited.

“Recent developments in the European Union’s Southern and Eastern Neighbourhoods have led to constant new challenges for the security of all of Europe. An open and honest dialogue with Europe's Southern neighbours is very topical and necessary,” Keit Pentus-Rosimannus said. “It is in all of our common interest to have close cooperation with the EU's neighbouring countries in order to combat threats in conflict areas, terrorism and organized crime.”

The goal of the Informal Ministerial Meeting on the future of European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) on April 13 in Barcelona is to involve the European Union’s Southern neighbours and to jointly discuss topics relating to the further development of the European Neighbourhood Policy. Common regional points of interest such as immigration, energy issues, security and terrorism will also be discussed. On May 21 and 22, the Eastern Partnership Summit will take place in Riga, Latvia, organized by Latvia as the current holder of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
