Foreign Minister Pentus-Rosimannus will be discussing the situation in Ukraine with EU foreign ministers today

Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus will participate in an extraordinary meeting of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels today. The Foreign Ministers will focus on the serious escalation of the situation in eastern Ukraine after the attack by Russian-controlled separatists in Mariupol on January 24 which claimed the lives of 30 people.

According to Minister Pentus-Rosimannus Russia’s continued aggressive behaviour and failure to comply with its obligations must have consequences. “We want to open a debate on additional restrictive measures at the Foreign Affairs Council. The sanctions policy must be continued in close coordination with transatlantic partners,” Foreign Minister Pentus-Rosimannus said. “Offering Ukraine economic support is just as important as sanctions, in order to ensure the country copes in a very difficult financial situation,” she added.

Estonia has condemned the rocket attack on a residential neighbourhood of Mariupol and Russia's growing aggression in Ukraine, which has resulted in a serious escalation of the situation.
