Moldovan Prime Minister to the Estonian Foreign Minister: Estonia is an example for Moldova

30.04.2015

Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus confirmed yesterday at her meeting in Chișinău with the Prime Minister of Moldova Chiril Gaburici, President Nicolae Timofti and first Deputy Speaker of Parliament Lilian Palihovici, that Estonia will support Moldova's development projects with 950 000 euros this year.

"Moldova's progress and the improvement of people's quality of life depends largely on the reforms to be carried out. Estonia is offering Moldova its support in developing its e-government, as well as in cooperation in the fields of health and education,” the Estonian Foreign Minister said.

According to Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, direct people-to-people contacts are the best way through which to introduce life in the European Union and demonstrate the necessity of reforms. “For many young people in Moldova, the European Union is something complicated and remote. How people actually live and study in a European Union country, and how the reforms carried out in the country have actually helped, that is what they would like to learn from us and that is what we offer Moldova through our development cooperation projects,” Pentus-Rosimannus said. For example, Estonia supports Moldovan students studying in Estonian universities. Three Moldovan students are currently studying in Estonia, as well as two young diplomats at the Estonian School of Diplomacy.

Cooperation with Moldova has also been successful in the fields of entrepreneurship education and the construction of road safety training sites in Chișinău and in schools in smaller cities. The Estonian Centre of Eastern Partnership is also helping contribute to Moldova's reforms through training and education.

Moldovan Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici thanked Estonia for its support in helping Moldova implement reforms. According to him, Estonia has set the example for how to move towards Europe. The Prime Minister said that Moldova highly appreciates Estonia's experience and considers its expertise in e-government and cyber issues to be of particular importance.
